Case Study: The Second River Severn Crossing

Client: Baco Contracts

Location: Severn Beach and Monmouthsire, UK

Finish: Syntha Pulvin - mint green

Paint Manufacturer: Valspar

Size: 320,000m3

The Second River Severn Crossing is located between Monmouthshire in Wales and the Severn Beach in South Gloucestershire, England and consists of 320,000 cubic metres of concrete and 30,000 tons of reinforced steel.

As the level of traffic increased between1980 to 1990, the original Severn crossing was no longer able to cope with the congestion efficiently. Therefore planning work started on a second crossing in 1986, to investigate the best location and the layout of the new approach roads. Work on the new crossing began in 1992 and was completed in 1996.

LBL Finishers were the exclusive powder coater commissioned for this project and were involved in painting over 10 linear kilometres of wind and noise shielding.

Over 25 years after installation and with constant exposure to the harsh marine environment, the powder coated finish is still consistent in both colour and gloss.
